This article describes how to use the Devices page of NetCloud Manager and also contains information for upgrading firmware, configuring devices, and running speed tests.
After adding a device to NetCloud manager it is listed in the Devices page, where you can view a device's status, make configuration changes, move devices into a group, etc. In the menu at the top, select one of the following tabs (default view is Routers) to view and manage:
-
Routers: Displays all the routers and Wi-Fi Access points in your account.
-
Network Interfaces: Displays every network interface in your account, including LAN and WAN (for example: modems, Ethernet connections, Wi-Fi).
On the Routers tab, click a device name to open the device dashboard with charts for data usage, signal strength and more. For detailed information about the device dashboard, see NetCloud Manager Dashboard Page Overview.
The most common way of managing devices is in groups, where you change the configuration and upgrade firmware on all the devices in a group at once, making it easier to manage devices at scale. Cradlepoint recommends assigning all devices to groups, even single devices.
Use the following steps to create a group.
- Log into your NetCloud Manager account. The Devices page displays by default.
-
Click Groups in the left menu and then click Add in the toolbar.
-
Complete the details for the new group.
-
Type the Group Name you want to use,
-
Click Change to add routers from a subaccount, if necessary.
-
Select the Product type you will be adding for the group. This selection adds to your group all the routers of the selected product type from the account/subaccount selected in the Subaccount field.
-
Select the NCOS Type, Standard or Controller. If the group contains Captive Modem Controllers, select Controller as the type. Otherwise select Standard as the type.
-
Select the NCOS you want the devices in that group to have. This NetCloud OS version is pushed to routers when you add them to the group.
NOTE: All the devices in a group must be the same product type and use the same firmware.
- Click OK.
The new group is now listed on the Groups page. As new devices are added to your account, you can add devices of the same type and firmware to existing groups.
Use the following steps to add devices to a group.
-
Log into your NetCloud Manager account. The Devices page displays by default.
-
Select each device you want to add to a group.
-
Click Move.
-
The Move Router panel displays.
- Select a group (only groups with the appropriate device type display)
- Click Move.
NOTE: When devices are added to a group, the firmware version is automatically checked. If the firmware version doesn't match the others in the group, the device is IMMEDIATELY upgraded or downgraded to the version of firmware defined for the group. If an upgrade/downgrade is necessary, the device will reboot to complete the firmware change.
Router firmware can be upgraded via a group in NetCloud Manager. You can also schedule a future time for the NetCloud OS update to take place. To learn more click one of the following:
You can apply a configuration change to a group or a specific device within a group (for example when changing failover priority, enabling GPS, adding a guest Wi-Fi network, etc.). Configuration settings created for a group apply to all the devices within the group. Configuration settings created for a device apply only to that device and override configuration settings defined for the group it is in.
Use the following steps to change the configuration of a group.
- Log into NetCloud Manager. The Devices page displays by default.
-
Click Groups and then select the group you want to configure.
-
Click Configuration in the top toolbar and then select Edit in the drop-down menu.
The Edit Configuration window displays, allowing you to make configuration changes.
-
Make changes in the Edit Configuration window and then click Apply on each configuration page before leaving the page in order to save the changes made.
-
Once you have completed all changes, select from the following buttons on the bottom of the window:
-
View Pending Changes – view all of the changes you made on all of the configuration pages
-
Commit Changes – apply all of the changes made on all of the configuration pages to the group or device(s)
-
Discard Changes – close the configuration window without applying any of the changes made on the configuration pages
Use the following steps to configure an individual device.
-
Click Devices in the left-side menu and select the device from the list.
-
Click Configuration in the top toolbar and then select Edit from the drop-down menu.
-
The same rules and guidelines apply to device configuration that apply to the group configuration described above.
The Speed Test functionality replicates what can be done on the router through the local UI. The instructions are as follows:
-
Log into NetCloud Manager. The Devices page displays by default.
-
Select a device.
-
Click Commands > Speed Test. This opens the Troubleshooting tab of the Router dashboard.
-
Select the WAN Device you want to run the test against from the Online WAN Interfaces drop-down list (the test can be run on Ethernet WAN or SIM WANs).
-
Click Start.
NOTE: The first time you run a speed test, you may see this message:
The test automatically starts after the feature is installed. After the Speed Test completes, the results are shown in the window.
